Fem Spock baby crush on Spring because he's the most feminine looking boy ever. She was so sullen about being married to a boy but after meeting him she perked right up.
Tumblr media
This one and only time she's ever felt anything even approaching romantic interest in a boy will keep her from exploring the possibility of her being a lesbian for over two decades.
Tumblr media
When Spring ends their betrothal (she's on Pike's enterprise) Spock gets this feeling of freedom mixed with dread/anxiety in the pit of her stomach. There's feelings of inadequacy (Spring's message simply says he's found someone he's more compatible with and Spock didn't know him well or really WANT to marry him but the rejection still hurts, as much as she'd like that not to be the case)...relief that she won't have to have sex with a veritable stranger when the time comes, and the dread...will she have to find another man to marry?? She'd used Spring's existence as something of an excuse not to pursue or think about romance with anyone but without it... For some reason the thought of being romantically interested in a man is incomprehensible to her and the thought of a man romantically interested in HER is actively unappealing. Spock decides that this is because she's Vulcan. The most Vulcan Vulcan there is. And she doesn't have any Vulcan friends to fact check her so! She'll just stay celibate the rest of her life! Surely nothing will derail this plan. Somewhere, lightyears away, Jeanette Kirk sneezes.

sorry former gifted kids and burnt out perfectionists but: the only way to get better at something is to do it, and to repeatedly suck at it. failing. sometimes for years. until one day you step back and look at what has just been produced by your beautiful hands and beautiful brain (which are themselves the products of eons of failures-until-it worked) and think: wait a minute. this looks different. this feels different.

What would the shorts be in your AU? I think it be a live demonstration of how someone (Mr meteor) is integrated into the hivemind and how it's "safe" and "the right thing to do"- basically propaganda. but things keep messing up
wander's not like. super public with the cult the way hater is with his empire in the show, so i don't know whether he'd be airing something like that across the galaxy. hater's got like. totally negative charisma, especially when he's being recorded, and yet he continues recording himself, and i think that's a trait meteor would still share with him. mr meteor is very much like metroman of megamind to me, also, where he quits his life of fame & glory to become a nobody, but he still has that streak of like. craving the kind of attention a rockstar gets as opposed to the superhero/king treatment.
so i imagine the shorts would be like. meteor's vlogs on his youtube or something. and he's starting a series called Inside Planet Yonder or whatever where he sets up a camera in an unassuming place and does little dances for the camera until he gets caught. like a prank show or something, but very benign and mildly annoying as opposed to antagonistic. this does require the shorts to take place before wander is redeemed, but honestly, the timeline in this au is so scrambled when you try to put it up against the show itself (which is already crammed into two very short seasons) anyway

Breaking down corrosion to predict failure and design stronger materials
You've seen the movie scene: dilapidated skyscrapers, collapsed bridges, and empty, shell-like cars in a post-apocalyptic city. While Hollywood imagines fictional causes for this decay, in reality, the culprit is far more mundane: corrosion. Corrosion costs trillions of dollars globally, with up to 3% of the U.S. GDP spent on failing materials. New research from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) aims to tackle this issue by predicting failure and informing the design of better materials, up front. The findings are published in the journal Nature Communications. "Our current knowledge of corrosion is based on historical data from well-known and well-characterized metal compositions and processing," said LLNL scientist and author Brandon Wood. "As soon as you alter the composition at all or alter the way the materials are processed, all bets are off."

Today I learned about the Chinese character 干, which means "to work" but in the form of an adverb it means "in vain" (If I understood correctly, in slang it became non-normative vocabulary).
Of course, it depends on the tone (I don't understand Chinese at all :'D) but I thought it was funny! So here's Ren tired from studying hehe
Comrades linguists and native speakers, if you have any clarifications, I'll be glad to hear the corrections!!🙌

I swear it feels anxiety inducing when i try to write sometimes. like obvs not all the time, i enjoy it but it feels like every mistake i make makes me want to die. (not really but the dread is unbearable) I hate having low self esteem, i wish i didnt have fear, i wish i could shit out a draft then edit it but no my brain NEEDS it to be perfect and it legit brings pain when i find out i made a mistake and need to start over. The worst part is I have ADHD and reading books feels like a nightmare because so many are just so shitty at explaining whats happening. I enjoy nonfiction more for this reason. I hate wasting time on a book. I hate when I find a promising book and they just fill it with meaningless fluff and dont. get. to. the. point. The advice of "just read" is borderline impossible if 90% of the fiction books i try to read are boring as FUCK.
And just trying to plan it out is difficult, i have so many ideas but once i try to make an actual timeline in it my mind goes blank. but i kinda NEED it if i dont want to write myself in a corner. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

How do I put what's in my head onto the page? Is it always hard?
Hello!
If you're asking me how to make the writing live up to the fantasy, just remember: writing isn't a transcription service, it's an art form.
Writing isn't thinking, but between you and me, thinking isn't that great anyways. It's like singing in the shower. Thinking needs to be translated through a skill like writing before it'll make a good scene.
Creation is choices and actions, not recreation. Let me give you an example: I crocheted my dog recently, and I didn't aim to perfectly recreate my dog in tiny crochet form. Instead, while I crocheted, I converted her into a small character with plushie proportions. She had all her recognisable features and was a pretty good crochet dog, checked all the boxes, Dad was happy. But the little crochet dog didn't look exactly how the subject did, sat there wagging on the rug. That's because I wasn't trying to copy her. I was trying to crochet her. In the same way, I don't transcribe my daydreams, I convert them into writing form, and that's 90% less frustrating and 100% more possible.
As for whether writing remains hard forever, yes and no. Writing becomes easier with practice the same way anything does, but it gets harder as you naturally challenge yourself to write better, like a bodybuilder increasing the weights. But if you stop expecting writing to come out 'correctly' and instead lose yourself in the process, you won't feel the dead ends, you'll be too busy finding solutions and thinking on your feet -- you'll be in the zone.
I just wish I knew how to do that on command!
